On Friday, August 2, 2024, Madness will bring their infectious energy to Audley End House & Gardens in Saffron Walden, Essex, headlining the Heritage Live Concert series. Set against the stunning backdrop of this historic estate, the ska legends promise a night packed with classics like “One Step Beyond,” “Baggy Trousers,” and “Our House,” alongside tracks from their chart-topping 2023 album, Theatre of the Absurd Presents C’est la Vie. Emerging from Camden in the 1970s, Madness has earned accolades like the 2000 Ivor Novello Award, solidifying their status as British music icons.
Joining them are special guests Lightning Seeds and Old Time Sailors. Celebrating 35 years, Lightning Seeds, led by Ian Broudie, will deliver hits from their 1989 debut Cloudcuckooland (“Pure”) and 1994’s Jollification, plus the timeless anthem “3 Lions,” a chart-topping football staple. Opening the show, Old Time Sailors will whisk audiences to the 19th century with their sea-shanty-inspired performance, blending traditional instruments and theatrical flair.
Heritage Live at Audley End has become a summer highlight, drawing fans from Essex, Cambridgeshire, and beyond. Promoter Giles Cooper of GCE Live enthused, “2024 is set to be another vintage year for Heritage Live. Madness are a firm favourite, and we’re thrilled to host them for what will be a sensational show.” With its blend of ska, pop, and nautical nostalgia, this concert promises an unforgettable evening in the Essex countryside.

Madness were pure Madness!
Imagine the scene a beautiful stately home as a backdrop, a balmy summer evening and the crowd up for fun. Suggs and the boys didn’t let us down. The interplay with Suggs and Lee Jay Thompson was brilliant and led to such a fun evening. Classic and new songs rang from the stage with the crowd singing, dancing and chanting along with them. Thank you guys you were amazing, you truly cut across all generations. Long may you reign!
